After spending a few glorious days camping on the Green River Reservoir and lots of time kayaking (to and from our camp site, beaver damns, and just exploring), we were ready to start our trip! Thursday the 4th of September we left for Portland, Maine. A favorite friend of 10 years invited us to visit and explore!
In Portland we did our favorite things:
We enjoyed a First Friday in Portland, visiting many of art museums, enjoying street performers, and taking part in the festivities.
We started our evening in Portland with dinner at Eventide. On the water, fantastic food, and great ambiance. Later we followed up with Pizza from Otto’s, which we had heard a lot about but it didn’t live up to the hype, not a lot lives up to Philly favorites like Pizza Brain and Dockstreet though.
After dinner… Art! We visited MECA, The Maine Art Museum, a few gallery spaces along the way. Check out the photos below!
After our night in Portland, we escaped back to rural life and stayed in a beautiful log cabin in Albany Township,ME. This part of the trip involved a lot of reading (and napping in the hammock).
However, we enjoyed visiting a Bison Farm, drinking an amazing selection of beers at Ebenezer’s pub, eating ham and cheese croissants each day at Marta’s Bakery, and swimming in a tranquil waterfall of mountain run off.
Next Stop: The Forks!
An amazing neighbor gave us a white water rafting trip through Northern Outdoors. The company had a beautiful lodge that had a pool, game room, brewery, hot tub, and ATV Trail. We went on a small trip with only 2 boats known at Diablos. When we first reached the Kennebec river we saw no white water and were pretty disappointed. Luckily the damned river lets through more water at certain times each day, ensuring a great water flow no matter what. Soaking wet, we made it all the way down the river with out falling off the raft!
After our rafting trip, we dried off, hopped in the car and headed to Acadia National Park. We spent two days camping in Acadia, enjoying hiking, climbing, and even venturing into Bar Harbor.
